1997 The Second Century of SCM in Aotearoa!

EXAMS, ESSAYS AND PROJECTS ...have taken precedence for most of us in the last month or two. Once they are over we can take a deep breath and enjoy the fresh air, friends and food. This is the time of year when everyone else starts getting religious, s o SCMers tend to take a break, and settle for social events such as parties, barbeques (and of course in Dunedin, the year-round ice-skating!) For all the people who have just had a little bit to do with SCM this year, don't be afraid to give a contact p erson in your Local Group a ring, just to see what is going on. Contact people are: Otago: Amanda ph 4738528, Canterbury: Martin ph w:3669274, h:3746389, Victoria: Angela ph 2324436, Waikato: Jemma ph 8566102, Auckland: Gail ph 8467992, or anyo ne else you know.
JANUARY 1998 LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE SCM Otago is putting heaps of effort into this. It will be a very will run conference, and offer a great opportunity to improve lots skills in group dynamics, bicultural issues and more. Consider putting it on your C.V .! But of course you've got to get there! Travel subsidy is available, so contact your NCG rep. now! SCM Victoria has already found two people to go.
JULANNE AND MICHAEL ...will be in Aotearoa from mid December to mid January. Julanne has sent some pictures from her classes on Christmas at school - see below.
AKONGA Contributions for the orientation issue of the SCM Aotearoa magazine Akonga are welcome now. Send to Richard Davis and Hilary Mather at 187 The Terrace, Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington or email to radone@matai. vuw.ac.nz .
NATIONAL COORDINATING GROUP The NCG of SCMA met on Sunday 19th October. Quentin Duthie the Treasurer reported that to date 150 copies of the last issue of Akonga have been ordered by Local SCM Groups. They are to be printed by the University of Otago printery.

The Group granted $300 each towards the travel expenses of the SCMA Women's Coordinators going to the World Student Christian Federation - Asia Pacific Region, Gender Training Programme in the Philippines. The Group also endorsed them to make a Solidarit y Visit to SCM Philappines.

It also endorsed the Tau Iwi Project of having some SCMers attend the Australian SCM's National Conference and a Anti-Racism dialogue for two days afterwards. Interested people should contact their NCG representative or the National Office immediately.

The NCG is meeting again on Sunday 30th November.

RACHELLE STONE ...from Australian SCM sends her greetings to us all. She says: "An-nyong ha sae-yo my dear friends in SCMA. As I pack my furniture off to my parents' house, send my books on ahead of me, have various needles in my arm and attend many t eary frewells with only eleven days before I leave my precious home of North Melbourne to go and live in South Korea for twelve months, believe it or not, I do think of you people in cheery Aotearoa. My memories of my visit five months ago linger on in a comforting way, aided by photos on my wall and continued contact through letters, emails and visits (you right-little air-fuel consumer you, Quentin!). :-) So I wanted to write you all a note of greetings and leave with you my Korean address and assura nce that we will meet again, I do believe." She wins the prize for the most complex sentences, and leaves her address, available from the SCMA National Office
OUR WEB SITE IS GROWING Have a look if you can, at http://www.godzone.gen.nz/scm and see what is there already. Now that it is all happening, it would be great to have something from each National Coordinator - Something about what your vision for tha t particular concern is. Please send a photo of yourself and a brief introduction - otherwise someone else will write it for you! And we may find some photos from last conference that you'd rather not have in the public domain...!
WHERE ARE YOU FOR SUMMER? Please send a change of address card to the National Office.
